Melk Abbey is easily accessible by public transport, on foot, and by bicycle.
Arriving by Train
Melk railway station is only a few minutes’ walk from the abbey. There are regular train connections to Melk from Vienna and St. Pölten, as well as from the direction of Amstetten. For current timetables and connections, please check ÖBB.
From Melk Railway Station to the Abbey
From Melk railway station, you can reach the abbey on foot in approximately 10–15 minutes. The route leads through the town centre of Melk to the main entrance of the abbey.
Arriving by Bus
Melk is also well connected by regional bus services. The nearest bus stops are located in the town and are only a few minutes’ walk from the abbey. For current connections, please check the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR).
Arriving by Bicycle
Melk is located directly on the Danube Cycle Path and is therefore very easy to reach by bicycle. From the Danube Cycle Path, the abbey can be reached within a few minutes. Bicycle parking facilities are available in the area of the abbey.
Arriving by Car
The large abbey car park is available for cars and coaches visiting the abbey. Please follow the signs marked STIFT MELK.

Alternatively, search for the destination Stift Melk.
Tour groups and visitors arriving by coach or private car can park free of charge when purchasing an admission ticket to the abbey. The parking ticket must be validated at the ticket office in the first courtyard when purchasing the admission ticket.
The car park can be exited free of charge within 15 minutes of taking a parking ticket, without payment or validation.
