Accessibility declaration
Melk Abbey endeavours to make this website accessible in accordance with the Federal Act on Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of the Federal Government (Web Accessibility Act – WZG) BGBl. I. No. 59/2019 as amended.
This accessibility statement applies to www.stiftmelk.at.
Status of compliance with requirements
Due to the following incompatibilities and exceptions, this website is partially compliant with conformity level AA of the ‘Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.2’ and with the applicable European standard EN 301 549 V3.2.1 (2021-03) according to Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:
a. Incompatibility with accessibility regulations
- Success Criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A)
Not all non-text content, such as images, graphics or objects, has a meaningful and equivalent text alternative. - Success Criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A)
The semantic structure of the content is not correctly implemented on individual pages. In particular, some main headings (H1) are missing or the heading hierarchy is not logically structured. - Success Criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A)
Structuring elements such as headings are not implemented correctly or consistently throughout (e.g. skipped heading levels), making it difficult for users of assistive technologies to skip content blocks. - Success Criterion 2.4.6 Headings and Labels (Level AA)
Headings and labels are not clear, correctly structured or sufficiently descriptive on all pages, which can make orientation difficult for users of assistive technologies.
b. Disproportionate burden
We are unable to provide audio descriptions [WCAG Success Criterion 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded)] for our videos in the video gallery or for videos published by us on YouTube. This would constitute a disproportionate burden. However, all our videos are subtitled.
PDF documents for download are not offered in an accessible format.
c. The content does not fall within the scope of the applicable legislation
Third-party content that is not within the sphere of influence of Stift Melk is excluded from the scope of the WZG and Directive (EU) 2016/2102.

Enforcement procedure
If you are not satisfied with the response you receive from the above contact, you can lodge a complaint with the complaints office of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). The FFG accepts complaints electronically via the complaints office contact form.
The FFG examines the complaints to determine whether they relate to violations of the provisions of the Web Accessibility Act, in particular deficiencies in compliance with accessibility requirements, by the federal government or an institution associated with it.
If the complaint is justified, the FFG must issue recommendations for action to the federal government or the legal entities concerned and propose measures to remedy the deficiencies.
