Most of the abbey visit is wheelchair-accessible. To get to the areas which are not directly accessible without barriers, wheelchair users and walking-impaired guests are assisted by our staff. Please come to the ticket office / information counter in the first abbey courtyard, so that we can organize assistance and give you tips about your visit of the monastery.
Free entrance for an accompanying person, if need for a caregiver is stated in the disability card.
Tips for your visit:
On the abbey parking lot (follow the street signs STIFT MELK-P) guests find parking spaces for the disabled.
Visitors who purchase admission tickets to Melk Abbey may use the parking lot free of charge. The parking ticket must be validated at the cash desk (first courtyard) when buying the admission tickets. Within 15 minutes after drawing a parking ticket, the parking lot can be left free of charge/without validation of the parking ticket.
Via elevator guests can get from the parking lot level to the level of the abbey entrance. From there a level path leads to the abbey.
The gravel paths in the abbey park can cause difficulties for wheelchair users (especially with electric-powered wheelchairs). Unfortunately, the interior of the Baroque garden pavilion is not wheelchair-accessible.
For guests who can’t manage to walk longer distances, two wheelchairs are available for the duration of the abbey visit. Please make a reservation under +43 (0)2752 555 232.
Guests can find wheelchair-accessible restrooms in the first abbey courtyard, near the Imperial Staircase, as well as near and inside the abbey restaurant. Upon request we can also bring you to the barrier-free restrooms near the library and in the Northern bastion.
The whole abbey restaurant is wheelchair-accessible.
We would be pleased to help you plan your visit for guests with disabilities.
Guide dogs and service dogs are allowed on the premises.
We offer reduced flat rates for groups with special needs guests.
