Pastoral duties in the parishes and in the monastery

Since the foundation of the monastery the Benedictine monks in Melk have also been entrusted with the task of caring for parishes outside of the abbey. The number of parishes increased from five to 27; today there are 23. Special rooms have been set up in the monastery to enable pastoral work to take place here as well.

The numerous visitors to the building also pose a pastoral challenge to the monastery, a desire to make them realize that in every period and genre of art, the artists wanted to call attention to God through their works (“Ut In Omnibus Glorificetur Deus”—So that God is honored in all we do).
